Trump pen scratches out Obama’s expensive and futile Clean Power Plan

What Obama could do with his pen, Trump can undo with his — and has.

On Tuesday Trump signed an order telling the EPA to rewrite Obama’s Clean Power Plan that would have closed down most coal-fired power plants so they could be replaced with windmills and solar panels. Obama had committed to cutting so-called greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent by 2025, while shrugging off the fact his plan would suck $1 trillion out of the economy and kill 125,000 jobs, as The Wall Street Journal reports today in an editorial.

The WSJ further points out the utter futility of Obama’s senseless and futile gesture, because a year of U.S. emission cuts in 2025 would be canceled out by three weeks of Chinese emissions. Besides, though emissions continue to increase, temperatures globally have remained much the same.

Also in today’s WSJ, Paul Tice, a business prof and energy research analyst, recommends that Trump’s EPA needs to conduct a study that would show whether or not the agency’s 2009 “endangerment finding” that tagged carbon dioxide as a pollutant is indeed valid. He suggested the decision was rushed and based on flawed data. Until that finding is confirmed or more likely refuted, he notes some future liberal president can scratch through Trump’s order.

Tice notes the “breakdown in correlation between the world’s average surface temperatures and atmospheric carbon dioxide levels” has called into “question both the predictive power and input data quality of most global climate models, and further highlights the scientific uncertainty surrounding the basic premise of anthropogenic climate change.”

Throwing money at faulty theories is hardly a wise endeavor.

The WSJ editorial concludes: “As for climate change, President Trump’s order will have the same practical effect on rising temperatures as the Clean Power Plan: none.”

    “carbon dioxide as a pollutant”

My trees and plants hate those who want to KILL them by taking away their AIR!

  2. Rincon says:

Evidence that the present warming is natural – zero. The reigning Conservative theory as to why the next ice age is 2,000 years late – nonexistent. Evidence that warming to the degree observed today is reasonably common historically – zero. Evidence that this degree of warming is very uncommon – substantial. Evidence that the emission of the massive quantities of greenhouses that we see today will cause no harm – zero. Evidence that our scientists actually have some idea what they’re doing (as they do with almost everything else) – substantial. Conservative recommendation: Sit on hands and slash environmental funding while buying lots of weaponry. Evidence that possessing approximately half of the world’s weaponry has given us great advantages compared to other countries – skimpy and probably outweighed by evidence that our heavy reliance on our military has been counterproductive.

  3. Steve says:

“Very likely” Human activity is responsible for 50% of recorded warming.

Therefore it is “very likely” the rest is due to natural causes.

The IPCC is the evidence you seem to lack.

  4. Rincon says:

Again, Steve posts false information. It is becoming fashionable though. You would think he was a Trump supporter. Speaking of which, I am (less than) amazed at the lack of coverage in this space of the shenanigans of Trump and his administration. He has become the new definition for the word, liar and his Russian connection is indefensible. Had Obama or Hillary been found with half or even a quarter of these revelations, you guys would have been up in arms. You didn’t like Trump much in the primaries, but you fell in line with all good Conservatives to support your team. At least you’re loyal, I guess.

  5. Steve says:

Ahh, trying to change the subject when I could go to your own post showing you are wrong to claim false anything.

You can’t stand it, IPCC clearly stating 50% when you peeps all KNOW its 160%…with ZERO evidence to back you up….

    HA! it is to laugh.

  6. deleted says:

Seriously “50%”? Pretty obvious Steve can’t read. Or that he’s just a liar; it’s one or the other but to be honest, I’m pretty sure it’s the former.

And Trump supporters claiming to be conservative have a built in answer for when Trump goes wrong; “he was not a conservative”.

So even though he is doing PRECISELY the things conservatives have wanted done for so long; gut the EPA, cut all social spending while increasing military spending, appoint “originalists” to the Supreme Court, appoint “business leaders” to key positions in government, get rid of regulations, “do something” about “illegal immigrants”, lower business taxes and taxes on the wealthiest Americans, and a whole lot more, in the event evidence of his treason comes out, they will merely claim that “he was never one of them anyway.”

    Slippery devils like they are.

  7. Steve says:

Here is is Patrick. Rincon’s own post.

“The actual iPCC statement: “It is extremely likely that more than half of the observed increase in global average surface temperature from 1951 to 2010 was caused by the anthropogenic increase in GHG concentrations and other anthropogenic forcings together.”

Extremely likely, Steve. Not likely. More than half, Steve, not 50%. In case you’re not sure, more than 50% means that 50% is the minimum figure, not THE figure.”

Since the only figure they mention is 50% then that is the only figure we have to base any estimates.

But you peeps will insist it means 160%

  8. Rincon says:

Read it any way you want, Steve. To a normally intelligent person, it speaks for itself.

  9. Steve says:

If you read the IPCC reports instead of your media hype and one sided wiki’s you would soon realize you are not arguing science, you are arguing politics.

    The two are not one.

I have been telling you this for a year now.

I don’t “Read it any way you want” I read all of this as politics, because that is what it is.

You want to discuss the science?
Post nothing but IPCC peer reviewed papers.

  10. deleted says:

Remember the head vs stone thing?

  11. Steve says:

Patrick, if you want to stop being the box of rocks you constantly show yourself to be, stop being political.

You want to discuss the science?
Post nothing but IPCC peer reviewed papers.

  12. Steve says:

In case it slips notice, Patrick engages with me by replying to others, like Rincon.

Some would call this gossip, I find it funny. Patrick tries to use others as his attack dogs.

    More good news for conservatives!

Leastways those that don’t have to drink the water, or those that have children friends (snicker) and relatives that don’t have to drink water.

“The Trump administration has hit the pause button on an Obama-era regulation aimed at limiting the dumping of toxic metals such as arsenic and mercury by the nation’s power plants into public waterways.”

But at least the shareholders of corporations “creating” billions of dollars for their shareholders (who don’t drink water) are happy.

  14. Steve says:

Janet Yellen on the short list to lead the fed.

Banon under a cloud amid shrinking influence and responsibility.

Jared Kushner ( a lifelong New York Democrat) gaining influence and responsibility.

    — Abandoned vow to label China a currency manipulator.

    — Rethought hands-off assessment of the Syrian conflict — and ordered a missile attack.

    — Turned warm approach toward Vladimir Putin decidedly chilly and declared U.S.-Russia relations “may be at an all-time low.”

    — Decided NATO isn’t actually obsolete, now fully supportive.

    — Realized the U.S. Export-Import Bank is worth keeping around.

China halts all coal imports from North Korea and increases coal imports from the USA.

Instead of letting “Obamacare” fail on it’s own by doing nothing, releases fixes to keep it viable.

Since the USA is closing coal power plants in favor of natural gas, the source for toxic waste water is going away making any need for such a regulation seriously irrelevant.

Yup, the new administration is a dark cloud of total alt right conservatism.
Anyone who watches even the least bit of news knows a New York City Republican is equal to a moderate Democrat in real life.

It happened faster than I thought it would.
Liberal, Conservative it matters not. You were both fooled, you got what you would have no matter which puppet ended up where the “orange” one is now.
