Trump has a strange way of unifying the party

How to win friends and influence people. Donald Trump is no Dale Carnegie.

During a meeting of GOP donors during the Republican Convention this week in Cleveland he was caught on tape boasting to the donors that if he had run as an independent he could have beaten the GOP nominee. He did not say he would’ve won the presidency, but would’ve outpolled the GOP.

“I was the only one who wasn’t going to sign the pledge, and [RNC Chairman] Reince [Priebus] is going crazy because he thought I was going to run independent, and if I ran independent I promise you the Republicans would have had zero chance, OK?” he was quoted as saying by Politico, which added that this prompted laughter from the audience. “The independents would beat the Republicans!”

So, that’s how you unify the party and win supporters?

Reminds me of a line from a Kris Kristofferson song:

He’s a walkin’ contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction
Takin’ every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

  1. Much ado about nothing…(William Shakespeare).

  2. And the nothing is?

  3. Barbara says:

The more Trump talks the more he reminds me of Obama. Both believe they are the only reason the sun rises.

  4. The nothing is…this piece! With all that’s going on right now…it seems a bit desperate to regurgitate a miniscule story that’s almost a week old.

  5. Fair enough. But I couldn’t get that song out of my head. I used to accuse John L. Smith of writing entire columns in order to use a really bad pun at the end. I guess I am guilty, too.

  6. Lol…now that one I can relate to!!! (We saw Paul Williams Saturday night…and I can’t get that danged Kermit song “Rainbow Connection” out of my head…geeeeeesh!) Thanks!

Favorite line in a song –“when you spend your time a talkin to the people who don’t listen to the things you are a sayin who do think is gonna hear.” Kristofferson

  8. Too bad Kris couldn’t sing.

It appears the Russians will save us from Hillary and the DNC. What do you suppose they hope to reap in return?

  10. More green room appearances for Trump and Putin.

  11. Barbara says:

Certainly for Trump. Putin … hmm… more a shadowy, manipulative KGB kill-you-in-your-sleep SOB.

This is the first time I’ve felt Trump can actually win this thing…with Russian help. Putin is a great equalizer.

Watching the demonstrations outside the Democratic convention. Can this election get any weirder. Hillary escapes prosecution for violating the espionage act, and then an act of espionage by the Russians brings her down. Are we living out a plot by Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum?

  13. Barbara says:

Trump likes to make money and have his name on buildings. Putin likes to control nations. I guess we know which foreign policy advisors surround Trump won this round. I don’t think John Bolton would approve.

    Try this

Go to the Donald J. Trump Facebook page and see how many of your friends have “liked” his page & then go to Hillary Clinton Facebook page and see how many of your friends have liked her page.
Then go to Gary Johnson’s Facebook page and see who liked his page.

    My results;
    9 have been Trumnp’d
    0 sheep for Clinton
    3 Gary Johnson
Seems I have 3 sane FB friends!

  15. Steve says:

Update, I sent invites to my list to like Gary Johnson….already added two to the list.
Make that 5 sane FB friends!
