Newspaper has a curious way of reporting the news about itself

The Las Vegas Sun has posted an AP news story online reporting that billionaire casino executive Sheldon Adelson has confirmed in a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his family is the new owner of the newspaper, thus ending a week of speculation about who had purchased the paper.

The AP article quotes the Adelson family statement that appeared on page 2A of the R-J under the headline: “Editor’s note: A statement from the Adelson family in response to this article.” Said statement was not posted online by the R-J until nearly 8 a.m.

The Wall Street Journal also has a story quoting the Adelson statement.

As of 1 p.m. the online R-J news story is still the same story as appeared in print — which quotes sources as confirming the Adelson purchase — with no mention of the family confirmation that appears next to that story online.
