Someone is reading Nevada newspapers

Actual Republican debate question and answer:

“HARWOOD: Is this a comic book version of a presidential campaign?

“TRUMP: No, not a comic book, and it’s not a very nicely asked question the way you say that.”

Later Ted Cruz weighed in challenging the questions: “You know, let me say something at the outset. The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media. This is not a cage match. And, you look at the questions — ‘Donald Trump, are you a comic-book villain?'”

Recent newspaper column: “Trump is little more than a scowling, snarling, epithet spewing, chameleonic but two-dimensional villain right out of a Batman comic book, who has a frighteningly realistic chance of tricking his way into the White House.”

Reblogged this on Nevada State Personnel Watch.

So it was a valid question.

  3. Steve says:

But was it a substantive question?

  4. nyp says:

eh, not particularly. but all of these debates have included “process” questions. Having Trump say why his campaign isn’t a reality TV show isn’t a bad thing.

  5. Steve says:

THAT comes with the territory in Trumps case. Should be obvious the guy is all about celebrity and nothing about substance. When questioning Trump, all the questions should be about substance to make clear how empty he really is.

  6. What happened last night was the curtain was pulled back for awhile…and it exposed the Wizard of Oz (the mainstream, lapdog, leg humping media) for who they really are. As was stated by Marco Rubio…they are little more than a Super PAC for the Democrat party…the third leg of the progressive leftist socialist elitist stool. And John Harwood was exposed for what he is…a smug, arrogant, condescending and biased south end of a north bound donkey!

  7. Winston Smith says:

Even on Live with Kelly and Michael this morning, Kelly (perhaps the Queen of Bubbly Superficiality) mentioned how the questions were not particularly useful for determining who would best lead our nation.

I suspect that this was the point of the “comic book” question, but Harwood didn’t phrase it as well.

I thought the description in your column was a hit in the 10-ring, but I wouldn’t have asked the question just like the panelist did. It gave the Cruz that opportunity to make the questioners look bad, when there was nothing more relevant they could ask than questions of character and competence. As the guy from Ohio had already mentioned, there is great danger here of electing somebody who can’t do the job. I think that’s why Bernie Sanders is running so unexpectedly well. A lot of people had rather vote for somebody who can possibly do the job, whose principles they hate, than somebody whose principles they like who has no chance of getting Congress to allow him or her to put them into play. They can at least hope Congress will defend us from his more batshit programs, while allowing him to carry out some that make sense. Anyway, I think the style of some questions was inappropriate, but the substance was okay. The guy from Ohio said the most relevant thing I heard: There is great danger of electing somebody who can’t do the job.

  10. And there are several people running who could never pass a security clearance.
