Greenspun Media should be looking for a copy editor

The Greenspun Media Group has an ad on journalismjobs.com for an entertainment writer.

The ad list the company’s publications as “The Sunday, Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Magazine, VEGAS INC and a family of leading websites” but never mentions the Sun. Is that a hint?

The hed reads: “Greenspun Media Group is seeking for a Staff Writer.”

Perhaps, they should be seeking (for) a copy editor, too.

The “Sun” is only around to extract the JOA money…there might be something that act that could be used to dissolve the agreement based on lack of original content since the intent was to keep more than one source of opinion and news available to the community.

  2. It certainly violates the spirit of the newspaper preservation act, but Justice will not look into it since Greenspun is a Democrat.

The key words are “reportorially independent and competitive.”

“In the public interest of maintaining a newspaper press editorially and reportorially independent and competitive in all parts of the United States, it is hereby declared to be the public policy of the United States to preserve the publication of newspapers in any city, community, or metropolitan area where a joint operating arrangement has been heretofore entered into because of economic distress or is hereafter effected in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.”

Reid shield…impenetrable. Wonder if Gate House is looking at it.

  4. They are fools if they are not. But they are in the newspaper business, so that may answer that question.

  5. Steve says:

I suspect Greenspun is riding the pony until it fall over.
