Those who don’t recall history are, well, doomed

Advisors are being sent to train foreign troops. Where have I head that before?

On June 10, 2015, Obama announces he is sending up to 450 more U.S. troops to Iraq to act as advisors and to train Iraqi troops to fight the Islamic State.

“This train, advise, and assist mission builds on lessons learned during the past several months and is just one aspect of our commitment to support the Iraqi Security Forces,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest was quoted as saying by USA Today.

The plan also is to stop insurgents from flowing into both Iraq and Syria.

On May 11, 1961, Kennedy announced he was sending 400 Special Forces troops to Vietnam in addition to 100 advisors.  He also ordered an infiltration of Laos to locate and disrupt supply lines. That later become known as McNamara’s Wall.

By the end of 1961 there were more than 3,000 Americans in Vietnam.

How long does it take to train foreign soldiers?

Soon we will be hearing about directional aiming rules….can’t shoot in the direction where you know the enemy is hiding…have to shoot 40 degrees to the “left”,,,,yes, Bob, that would be your political left!

Why isn’t the media asking for his PLAN?  It is immoral to commit more Americans when he just admitted this week he has no plan…  Shameful and truthfully treasonous. Love your blog, Thomas… Mo Karas

Somewhat off topic, but apparently there is enough money for “advisers”!

“Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a Reid leadership deputy who is poised to take over as Democratic leader after the Nevadan retires next year, told the Washington Post in an interview that Democrats are prepared to filibuster appropriations bills until Republicans agree to negotiate.

“There is pretty close to unanimity in our caucus that we are not going to just vote on individual appropriations bills until we have a plan as to how much overall money we’re going to spend and where that money is going to be allocated,” Schumer said.”

““We’ve set a spending level,” McConnell said. “We did it in the budget.”

McConnell said he planned soon to bring up the annual defense spending bill, in an apparent dare to Democrats to block a bill that funds U.S. troops.

“There’s been a lot of big talk about stopping bills; we’ll see whether they really want to do that,” he said.”

Yep…threats of filibuster are not filibuster…Lets see if the Democrats are willing to put their mouths where their words are! (So far in the last decade or so, only Rand Paul and Bernie Sanders have actually filibustered anything)

I recall 1962 well. A reinforced battalion of Marines was sent to Udorn, Thailand, ostensibly as a presence to keep VC from infiltrating Thailand from Laos and Cambodia. I was attached to that Battalion from my unit in Okinawa and from Thailand was sent to Viet Nam. “Mission Creep” is only an accurate description when there is no intent to escalate in the first instance.

    The best alternative?

  7. Kill them all and let God sort it out?

  8. Steve says:

Get out of the way and let them kill each other.

This isn’t war, in Obamaworld it’s community outreach.

  10. Barbara says:

All in or all out. No half measures. No stupid “Rules of engagement” that have been forced on the troops in Afghanistan.

  11. nyp says:

Right. We shouldn’t worry about killing children or women. And don’t worry about trying to distinguish between Sunni or Shia, ISIS troops or Iraqui troops. History has shown that indiscriminate bombing is the best strategy.

  12. Steve says:

Yeah, nyp because that all worked REAL GOOD in Vietnam…..

    f’n f’d up.

  13. Obama has no strategy and admits it.

  14. Rincon says:

Our real strategy should be to get off foreign oil. And Europe needs to get off Russian gas. Until that happens, our options remain limited.
