Nevada leads the nation in individual health insurance premium hikes

Nevada leads the pack in increase in premiums for individual health care insurance.

The Manhattan Institute has released a study of individual health insurance premiums under ObamaCare and found those premiums are increasing by 41 percent on average nationally, according to Forbes. The highest increase — of course — was found in Nevada, up 179 percent.

The other states with the highest increases are New Mexico up 142 percent; Arkansas up 138 percent; North Carolina up 136percent; Vermont up 117.

Tell me again why Nevada sent the powerful Harry Reid to Washington to help us. With help like this, who needs a boot on the neck?

  2. WE OUGHT TO HOLD NEVADA REPUBLICAN EL GOVERNOR HERMANITO (BRO) “SENOR BS” (Brian Sandoval) ACCOUNTABLE due to his rabid support of OBAMACARE……..read my 2014 GOP gubernatorial primary election campaign FB thread Facebook.com/ElectEddieInLibertyHamilton or Twitter @ElectHamilton

The few, the proud, the Harry Reidite Nevadans, set the pace. It is remarkable that we hear or see very little fault with the members of the Congress, it isn’t by accident that so many fault Obama and ignore the fact that most members of the Congress accepted this atrocious law three years ago, the few that speak against it now are late comers to opposition. They hope against hope that the dupe voters will remember it until next fall.

Let’s see….New York premiums went down 40% while Nevada’s went up 179% Is there an explanation for the huge disparity? I’m sure the cost of medical care didn’t suddenly change in opposite ways in both states.

  5. Steve says:

Rincon, population and competition. NY has a far larger population than Nevada and A LOT more insurance companies vying for the guaranteed (enforced) business.

Once again the smaller states get screwed. Only this time Harry couldn’t care less about his home state.

  6. Rincon says:

I can understand a lack of competition in Nevada, but wasn’t there plenty of competition in New York before? Either the New York companies were gouging their customers before or there’s going to be a lot of blood spilled by the insurance companies in New York in the future. There’s also the question of why the New York dynamic wasn’t similar to say, California or Texas.

The other question I have regards the ethics of a business that charges 179% of previous charges just because they think they can get away with it. This demonstrates that although you cannot trust government, you also can’t trust private enterprise unless the correct dynamics are in place. If they can, those corporations will screw you good.

Of course, one reason that the overall rates rose is that insurance companies cannot deny coverage for a preexisting condition. That extra cost should be offset by a lowering of costs to hospitals because they won’t be treating as many uncovered patients. But you can bet that they won’t lower their rates.

It’s a corporate free for all. Employers, medical providers and insurance companies can all grab more money and just blame Obamacare.

  7. Steve says:

That reads as though you are surprised, Rincon.

Sadly, many conservatives were saying the same things years ago.

  8. Athos says:

“new york companies were gouging their customers”

Who would have EVER thought New Yorkers would gouge their customers?? (hint: Wanna buy the Brooklyn Bridge?)

  9. New York required a lot of stuff.

  10. “ESCAPING FROM OBAMACARE BARACKALYPSE OBAMINATION”…

Republican former Governor Pataki of the Empire State of New York has excellent STEPS for all of us to be “FREE” of OBAMACARE, such as its mandated specifications of government approved health plan insurance policy and the crushing burdensome new ObamacareTAXES.

It’s called the “SELF INSURANCE” concept which is permitted by the A.C.A (in fact, it’s currently ALLOWED for USE by Big Labor Unions and Big Corporations self insurance programs). These entities managed to get the S/I provision included in the ACA, thanks to their high powered well paid K-Street lobbyists (remember what Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, ” just pass the damn bill, and then will find out what’s in it ” and, oh boy is she ever regretting this loophole b/c she did not know it even existed; apparently Ms Pelosi was too busy with her latest face-lift operations during the debate). According to Gov. Pataki, therefore, this is the way to insure only YOUR OWN KIND OF FOLKS, and thus you ain’t RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES !!

Being an Obamacare LOVER, however, current liberal, pro-abortion, pro-Big Government agenda, pro-higher sales and gasoline taxes, the hermanito (bro) “senor BS” (initializing BRIAN SANDOVAL) is OPPOSED to this “freedom”, from Obamacare for us Nevadans.

Therefore, in the upcoming June10, 2014 Republican primary election for Governor of Nevada, “REJECT and DUMP” senor B. Sandoval &&& “CHOOSE and ELECT” Eddie InLiberty HAMILTON, the Republican Base Conservative Choice, as well as the TEA Party Voice in this GOP gubernatorial contest, in the Battle Born Silver state of Nevada.
