The dumbing of Americans will make us less competitive

We are saddling the next generation with crippling debt and simultaneously failing to provide them adequate skills stay competitive in the world economy.

According to an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development survey, older Americans, specifically Baby Boomers, are superior to other those in other nations in skills, while younger Americans lag.

A Wall Street Journal analysis of the data found:

“The results show a marked drop in competitiveness of U.S. workers of younger generations vis a vis their peers. U.S. workers aged 45 to 65 outperformed the international average on the literacy scale against others their age, but workers aged 16 to 34 trail the average of their global counterparts. On the numeracy exam, only the oldest cohort of baby boomers, ages 55 to 65, matched the international average, while everyone younger lagged behind their peers—in some cases by significant margins.”

Yep! I have a 34, 30 and a pair of 28 year olds. When I point this out to them they look at me like I’m the stupidest man alive.
    They’ll find out….the hard way!

  2. Rincon says:

We raised ’em. Whose fault do you think it is? The same generation that helped make them obese, out of shape, poorly nourished and stuck them with a massive government debt as well as a dysfunctional health care system and the highest income inequality in recent history. Hopefully, we’ll get lucky on global warming, since we’re ignoring it too. Take a bow Baby Boomers!

Bruce, do they spend all their time on electronic games or cellphones, do they wear their caps backward and their pants way below their waist? Are there photographs of you in polyester bell bottom slacks and long hair and sideburns? I’m pretty old, I have photographs of myself in one button role suit jackets and tapered cuff slacks, I even had blue suede shoes at one time. My hair was too curly for a good flattop and ducktail but I tried.

Vernon (In Essence) says he survived, we survived, you survived and today’s kids will do so as well.

  5. Rincon says:

    They’ll survive Obamacare too.

  6. Survive, perhaps. Prosper? No.

  7. Athos says:

This is only if we tell them the truth, fellas. With all the lying from the public schools, news media, and the folly of youth, they may not believe us.

But as with all things, when the light goes on, they’ll remember hearing Truth, and will know how to act, accordingly.

Or as someone far wiser than me, once wrote, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

  8. Rincon says:

Train him to be a dumbbell and he will grow up to be a dumbbell. I think Proverbs is telling us that children need a good education.

  9. Athos says:

It’s a command to parents, Rinny.

  10. Rincon says:

I know. I just think it applies universally. Kids tend to turn out as a reflection of how they are raised.
