Obama’s sequester doomsaying on children’s vaccinations was hypocrisy

The White House was caught with its doom-and-gloom facts down around its ankles Tuesday during a hearing in Washington.

Maryland Rep. Andy Harris, a Republican, asked Centers for Disease Control Director Tom Frieden about a White House claim that sequestration budget cuts would reduce childhood vaccinations under a federal program called 317 by 2,050 in Maryland alone.

When Frieden couldn’t recall any facts or figures, Harris supplied them. He said the sequester cuts the 317 program by $30 million, but Obama’s own budget, which was submitted to Congress and failed to get a single vote, would have cut that program by $58 million — nearly double.

“So actually, the president cut twice as much in his budget. Can I assume that the president’s proposed cut would’ve reduced funding to 4,100 children in Maryland?” Harris asked. “Is it your testimony that under the president’s proposed cut of $58 million in his budget to the 317 program, you could have avoided cuts to vaccines to children in Maryland?”

Good dig out of this story, Tom. Smoke and mirrors is the tactic of con artists.

  2. None of the major mainstream media reported it.

Makes no difference. The uninformed voter, the majority of Obama’s base, could care less. All they want is “free” stuff paid for by suckers like us! We are becoming a National of fools, God help us.

  4. God helps those who help themselves — not those who help themselves to other people’s stuff.

Doesn’t matter that he’s a Republican, it’s typical political posturing, horrors, the children, the children. And he’s a medical doctor, shame on him. Wait, that’s wrong, shame is left behind when an individual becomes a member of the Congress. He’s no better than ditzy Representative Johnson (D) Georgia, that wondered if Guam would capsize when Marines were added. This guy and the rest of them are starting their 2014 campaigns, sad he chose vaccinations for children as a talking point when the military is being spayed and neutered, and food stamps are becoming a way of life. The children, the children!

You are all not thinking libby. Obama was using “TARGETED” budget reductions while the sequester is completely UNFAIR and indiscriminate.

So, when these cuts that aren’t cuts don’t cause any real noticeable troubles, when does the public start wondering why the sequester couldn’t take 10, 20 or even 30% off the top?

  7. Vernon Clayson says:

Steve, the public, as a whole, doesn’t wonder, most have gotten so used to the convoluted machinations of Obama and the Congress that they think it’s the norm. Plus the media tells us what wondrous things he does. Right now he’s just playing out the string, he accomplished what he was placed for, social change including socialized medicine, his replacement will hammer the last nail in the transformation. That’s if we can be rid of him in 2016, he might decide to just stay and the Congress will fold as it has since he took office.

  8. Steve says:

Rand Paul didn’t fold and he did get the answer he was looking for too.

Even Harry Reid was impressed. Paul could be a ray of light the congress needs.

  9. Vernon Clayson says:

Harry said he was impressed by Paul’s bladder and arches, he actually mocked him. Paul got attention but on subjects that few care about, drones, and, coincidentally speaking against Brennan as CIA director. Brennan was easily confirmed and the response, barely an answer, came from Holder, not Obama. It’s beyond our comprehension what lengths the Obama administration and the news media will go to defame Paul, e.g., crowds of news hawks went to Alaska to find dirt on Sarah Palin but found no reason to question Obama’s background.

  10. Steve says:

I was looking at how local and state police were ramping up to use drone tech, Vernon. I think Rand Paul got a strong precedent set with this action. He may not know it, but I think that is where the crux of this biscuit lays in repose.

  11. Athos says:

The truly baffling thing to me is that no one cares. Just finished reading Mark Steyn’s latest and brings up that point, succinctly. 15 years ago NO ONE would allow a 7 year old boy to be fondled by some official, just to board an airplane. What’s happened to us?

    Bread and Circuses.
